Project Solstice
A 312-component design system that replaced six inconsistent UIs across the bank.
The challenge
Meridian Bank ran six customer-facing products — retail web, retail mobile, business banking, treasury, internal admin, and a white-label partner portal. Each had its own components, colour palette, and typography. Brand guidelines existed in PDFs nobody read.
Engineering teams reimplemented buttons. Each product launch felt like a different company. The new VP of design had been brought in to fix it.
What we built
We audited every existing product, catalogued every variant of every component (37 distinct button styles in production!), and built a single design system in Figma paired with a code library in React. 312 components, four themes, full WCAG AA. Per-product migration with codemods for the structural changes.
We kept Meridian's design and engineering teams in the driver's seat — the system lives with them now, not us. We trained both teams, paired with their leads on the first six months of contributions, and stepped out cleanly.
